(HAGERSTOWN, MD — November 17, 2008) Hagerstown, Md. residents today take off for the fun and sun of Orlando, Fla. as low-fare airline Allegiant Air inaugurates nonstop service from Hagerstown Regional Airport to the Sunshine State. To celebrate, the low-cost airline is offering a special $59* one–way fare to Orlando.
In a special event before takeoff, Allegiant will present the local children’s charity, Dream Come True, with 10 roundtrip tickets from Hagerstown to Orlando. The charity will be able to use the tickets for fundraising purposes, to send children to the Magic Kingdom or in whatever way will benefit the organization the most.
“We are extremely pleased to bring the Allegiant brand of low-fare, nonstop, jet service to Quad-State community,” Maurice J. Gallagher Jr., Allegiant Air president & CEO, said. “This is an exciting new addition for our airline and our customers as we launch the only scheduled nonstop service between Hagerstown and Orlando.”
The new service operates twice weekly, with service Monday and Friday. Flights depart Hagerstown Regional Airport at 7:50 p.m. arriving in Orlando Sanford International Airport at 9:55 p.m. Flights leaving Orlando depart at 5 p.m. arriving in Hagerstown at 7:10 p.m. (all flight times are local.)
“It is such a pleasure to welcome the inaugural flight of our top-quality, fun-loving airline, Allegiant Air,” Carolyn Motz, airport director of Hagerstown Regional Airport, said. “We are delighted to have them provide the service the Quad-State Area requested to Orlando, Florida. Everything about this airline is right for us — from the low fares to the vacation packages!”
Allegiant will utilize 150–seat, MD–80 series, jet-aircraft on the route. The airline said its research and input from local community leaders indicate the Hagerstown community will welcome the new nonstop flights and low fares to Orlando. The new Orlando service will offer the community low-cost alternative to connecting flights and long drives.
